On concealable guns:
“Any gun that’s not the size of the Glock 17 is not going to be easy to shoot.” — Bill Wilson
Oh yeah, Bill, tell it like it is.
He calls the teenies “pocket rockets” and refers to them as “talisman guns” — i.e. people who carry them while not expecting to use them, but falling foul of the “any gun is better than no gun” trope.
I guess I’m guilty of that myself every time I strap on the S&W 637, the only difference from the talisman carriers being that I actually have practiced drawing and shooting the 637 — a lot — while the same isn’t true of the typical of those people.
Of course, I often feel the same way when I strap on the Browning High Power instead of the 1911, but let’s not go back into the “manly” vs. “Europellet” cartridge argument.
How often are incidents stopped by the intended victim simply pulling a gun – any gun?
@Quentin .. you mean something like this? https://cwbchicago.com/2022/12/chicago-teens-concealed-carry-robbery-uber-hijacking-shot.html
No, she means the many (but usually unreported) incidents where the intended victim just shows a gun and the attacker acts rationally and flees.
I dunno – I have a little M&P Shield 9mm that’s very easy to draw and fire, and it’s pretty darned accurate out to at least 25 yards.
+1 on the Shield. I have one and kinda sorta like it. Not my favorite range toy, nor anything I consider heirloom, simple a tool that does a simple job and does it well.
Gents,
I opted for the Shield Plus .. 13 in the grip plus 1 in the pipe … the grip is a tad bit wider than the standard Shield which gives it a better fit for me. I stay practiced by shooting my sporting club’s periodic steel plate events.
My S&W Bodyguard and Sig P365 are both quite easy to shoot. Maybe it depends on what he means by “easy”.
Yeah, my Sig P229 has less recoil and is much more accurate, but it is also more difficult to conceal and weighs a ton. Thus it doesn’t get strapped on for a trip to crime-ridden DC nearly as frequently as my pocket rocket Sig P365.
I’m not very accurate with small guns like my shield. I recently bought a couple of Hi-power clones (springfield SA-35 and a girshan MC-35) and hope to put one of them in the “carry” rotation.
Side note, the new Springfield has been touted as having a good trigger out of the box, mine had the roughest trigger I’ve ever experienced. The Gersan trigger, though the take up is rough due to the magazine safety, has a clean break.
I find the P365XL about the perfect compromise between size and shootability. Heck, I even shoot a match with it now and then. For light weight and comfort it’s about the perfect carry gun.
