Always one of my favorite stars of the era, Veronica Lake was very much an “accidental” film star — she got her first role when she accompanied a friend to an audition — but was never really cut out to be a celebrity. None of that matters, now. All we’re left with is her beauty.
Granted, she was a hottie, but she always looks like she’s sneering at the camera. It’s an expression that I always find a bit off-putting.
1) She was small and petite which allowed her to work with many diminutive leading men, like Alan Ladd.
2) If the stories are true, she could curse like a drunken sailor or an enraged drill sergeant then go right back to looking like sugar would not melt in her mouth.
always photographed, though, like a real class act
and I know no one who questioned her beauty
As already mentioned, she was a miniature person, under 5′ tall. How rare it is for someone that height to be so perfectly proportioned as she was. Remarkable.
