  1. One of my favorite albums that I still play today is their second one, the eponymous “The Band”. Almost all great tunes.

I’ve got to believe that you’ve seen the movie “The Last Waltz”; it does a good job of capturing them live with a whole pile of other musicians taking guest leads. The two studio versions in that film are also great, but look like they might have been dubbed.

Off-topic: If you haven’t heard it yet you may want to get a copy of Jethro Tull’s re-release of “Aqualung” in the Steve Wilson re-mix. You’ll hear things on that album that you’ve literally never heard before in any version, including the Original Master Recordings LP. I personally don’t think it’s their best album, preferring the era of Songs from the Woods, Heavy Horses, and Stormwatch (which I consider to be Fall, Summer, and Winter albums, respectively).

    1. In 1978 when I was 17 I moved out and got an apartment. The first thing I did of course was get the stereo set up, and the next was play The Band’s “Anthology”.
