Never a fan of the band, always loved this song.
Which leads me to a parallel thought: that’s not uncommon, at least not for me. Other examples of where I disliked or even hated the band/singer, but liked one specific song:
- Rolling Stones: Honky Tonk Woman
- Grand Funk Railroad: Footstompin’ Music
- Neil Young: Cinnamon Girl

I enjoy very few of Led Zeppelin’s songs.

Townes Van Zandt has a gawd awful voice to listen to, but his songwriting and guitar playing is excellent. He makes a cameo appearance in this video.

Grateful Dead = one of the most overrated bands of all time. Along with U2, Rolling Stones, John Bon Jovi, & the worst ever: George “I know 3 chords & I’m gonna shove ’em up your ass – over and over and over again” Thorogood.
Agreed, but I like Sugar Magnolia too
Agreed, but I like Sugar Magnolia and Friend of the Devil too
The Dead weren’t really an album rock band. they were more a live thing.
I saw them at the Cap Center in Md when this song came out. Go free tickets. Couldn’t tell you a tune they played, other than this one. I do remember that the music was great, overall. I enjoyed it. Also that they had the best sound system of any concert I’ve ever been, which is what made the show great.
That and the hippie chicks, and poseur hippie chicks dancing with no bras on.
There was nothing like a Grateful Dead concert!
The Dead had very few hits, Grand Funk had one good album. Neil Young has one good song every other year but budding guitarist love him for his simple cords, I cant stand him but for a few songs. The Stones I disagree, a lot of good songs on every album.
