I love watching a pro go about his business, and let’s be honest that when it comes to the 1911 pistol, few if any are Bill’s equal.
Which is why a couple of things he says in this video made me go: “Huh? I did not know that*.”
And I’ve fired well over 50,000 rounds through various 1911 models. Watch, and learn as I did.
*the life of a typical recoil spring was one of them. I change mine a lot less frequently than he does, but that’s going to change, you betcha.
Timely video.
Couple of weeks ago, I took the SW Eleventy out for the first time in about a decade(!) so some friends could shoot it. Noticed the WWB brass was getting chucked farther than usual. Prolly past time to replace the light competition load mainspring.
Out here in the Floriduh heat, I use a light synthetic grease on just about everything on the ’11. An ol’ Marine armorer loudly believed that the 1911 was a grease gun until the temps dipped into the 40s or 50s. Same with the M16/ M4. But, only a light coating – not peanut buttered onto everything. The ol’ warrior seems to run happier with the grease.
I was surprised he didn’t lube his recoil spring.
In comments, legalsolutions07 asks about the use of Slide Glide. Here is more info on that product–
