  1. Neither has whoever wrote that ad apparently. The Taj is in Agra not New Delhi. 150 miles away – a 4 to 8 hour journey depending on the mode of travel and Traffic.

…….. but it does have some nice Tourist Hotels if you have the budget. Just don’t ask too many questions about the actual source of the “Mutton”. And use one of the higher end Tour Providers.

    1. And of course the Taj Mahal wasn’t a palace. It was a memorial to a dead wife.

Even more superbly, that image is not of course an image of the Taj Mahal, but another tomb (still not a palace…); the tomb of Safdar Jang in Delhi (in yet another mistake, it’s not in New Delhi, which was set up by the British).

      1. They at least got one thing right. As one of our tour group leaders told us. Our advertising clearly states ” We offer ADVENTURE Travel. If you are looking for luxury travel that’s a different Tour Company.”

If you pay for Steerage Class Travel. Thats what you get…… good and hard

  2. Kim, regardless of price, I’d rather patronize Jewish Deli than Indian Delhi. Kaufman’s in Skokie is a bit of a hike, but they have “olde skool” pickled tongue. Closer to me is Max’s, Max and Benny’s Chicago Bagel and Bialy, Original Bagel and Bialy, Once Upon a Bagel, and Burts .. to name but a few. Yup .. Jewish Deli .. any day of the week and twice on Sunday, especially if they’re making blintzes.

  3. I wonder how much of that is caused by the Indian H1Bs and offshored IT to India. Just serving the market. It beats the 24 to 36 hour, multiple layovers flight to India that exists today,

  4. Places I have no interest in visitng:
    India
    Communist China
    Venezuela

Africa is quickly being added to that list despite the fact that they have animals for safari. Australia is quickly getting added too

    1. North Korea, Pakistan, Iraq, Iran, Saudi, Afghanistan etc. Anyplace where people shit in a hole in the floor and wipe with their hand is right out.

  5. Having just returned from the annual early summer trip to Carmarthen, Wales, where the beef was excellent, the women cheerful and the weather clement if not a bit nippy, I find myself packing for a short business trip south of the border.
The Fetching Dr. TopCat and I are bustling off to Cartagena, Colombia for medical seminar. It will be a nice change of pace from Wales, and a downright solid improvement of DC in July. They don’t call this the Great Dismal Swamp for nothing.

  6. I would love to visit India…during The Raj. Say around 1883-1889 when Kipling was there.

No interest in the modern land at all.

  7. I’ve never visited India, but my job will be moving there a month from now. Does that count?
