Missing Villain

Here’s a panic-button issue:

What’s behind the worrying rise of cancer in young people? After cases in people aged 25-49 rises 22%, experts are blaming processed foods, smoking, drinking and even pollution

They missed “climate change” in that list, but no doubt it will be added later.

Cases of thyroid cancer are also soaring among 15 to 39-year-olds, according to figures from the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington School of Medicine in the U.S. Between 1990 and 2019 there was an 81 per cent increase in cases in this age group in G20 nations, compared to a 24 per cent increase in all cancers.

Despite my flippant tone, this does seem to be a problem, although it’s affecting mostly young people right now — Daughter’s fiance has just had part of his thyroid removed, not for cancer but for something else.

That climate change thing still needs watching…

  1. As soon as you see the words “experts say” or “scientists say” your bullshit alarm should be going off full blast.

  2. Kim, I’ll take artificial and diet sweeteners for $300.

Having raised three I recall the propaganda from the time, we’re looking at the “Sugar Bad!” Generations.

Processed foods? Which part of processed are we talking about?
I expect our bug meals and lab grown meats won’t be as processed, yes? Vat meat and bugs is all natural!

    And smoking? Really?
Raise your hand if you belong to the “Everybody smokes”‘generations raised before the 1980’s that don’t show up in this new trend.

But to paraphrase Colonel Bat Guano – ” If you suggest artificial sweeteners are the problem you’re gonna have to answer to the Coca-Cola company!”

  3. The younger generation isn’t smoking as much as previous ones, but a whole bunch of them are vaping.

Also (though it’s hard to get a lot of people to think about this) there’s a LOT more pot smoking, with much more potent weed than was available decades ago.

Then, of course, there’s the other drugs…

  4. Eat from the farm, not the factory. that’s probably the best advice for food that I have received in a long time.

Rather than cheez-its, have some real cheese. None of that American cheese processed cheese food substance. If your taste buds can’t handle real cheese flavor then go for a mild cheddar, montaray (however you spell it) jack or mozzarella.

  5. No one is going mention the vax?

Just asking. It’s the one thing that is truly different between now and any other time prior to now.

    1. I was wondering about that myself. We don’t have a link to the original source, so no time-frame is available, but if this “worrying rise” is all post 2020, then I know my top suspect.

So glad I never bothered with the jab.

  6. I remember reading that an increase in oral sex was at one point to blame for an increase in mouth and throat cancers and a quick search backs this up. And the thyroid is not too far off the throat.

  7. When the “processed food” is meat, it means some kind of cured meat such as bacon and sausage. These used to be cured with smoke and time, but now are usually cured instantly with chemicals. Those chemicals have long been suspected of being carcinogens.
