Not a caption … there is some interesting history behind these roofed basements … there were lots of them at one point. If I recall, it had something to do with returing G.I.’s after WWII and the money to build running out. Damn it, now I have to go look it up.
When I was a kid (now 70) we knew some people who lived in one of those basement houses. The plan was to eventually build the rest of the house.
After California decide to let the forests grow wild without trimming the dead underbrush, forest fires became common. Once the greenery was destroyed and the bureaucrats and politicians bickered, the rains washed way the earth causing landslides.
According to their builder’s lawyer, Harvey and Jill misunderstood the common term “sunken living room.”
For sale: quaint 0 floor 3 bed / 1.5 bath with finished basement.
When my sister said she her real estate portfolio was sinking, I told her that was impossible.
