Does anyone check grammar at the Daily Mail nowadays? 
I don’t think journalists, editors, authors etc are particularly well versed on grammar anymore. I don’t believe they have the knowledge base to properly check their writings. yeah, grammar can be boring and tedious but it matters.
I say that as someone who went to college to study engineering and had few English classes in college and later became a nurse. Science and mathematics were my stronger areas. Some of my fellow engineers couldn’t write very well.
