Kimball’s “Rape of the Masters” should be required reading for, well, everyone.
It’s almost 20 years old, but it will hold up for generations.
I’ll have a look. Another must read is TH PAINTED WORD, by Tom Wolfe, which skewers the ‘art world’ splendidly.
Today’s art world (and in that I include other things like literature, film, and TV as well), is largely a celebration of the ugly, the profane, and the overtly offensive. It is largely created by people more concerned with their “platform” than honing and improving their craft. There is far better art captured by the average hiker photographing a sunset on their iPhone and posting it on social media than there is by talentless hacks spending $150K on an art degree in academia.
