  1. I live near the Gulf waaaay further south in Texas than our host does, and that skews my views.
    1. That first strong norther, usually in early October, that:
    a. Drops both the temperature and the dew point at least 10 F, and
    b. Means hurricane season is over for us.

    2. Almost any rain. Yes, we’re well south of Houston where they’re more ambivalent about this.

    3. The start of high school football season. We don’t go to the games (No need to feed mosquitoes more than we have to) but it means that the wife and I can go to dinner after 7:45 on Friday night and have a quiet evening out.

  2. 1. The “Welcome to Massachusetts” sign growing smaller in your rear view mirror.
    2. The warm feeling of crossing from the Democratic Peoples Republic of Massachusetts into New Hampshire and realizing you suddenly aren’t a felon for … something.
    3. Smelling the fall woods while hunting.

  3. do you really want to see what other places call BBQ?

I like BBQ and loved it in Kentucky and Tennessee. new England has a few good places but often the BBQ up here is tolerable at best. Mission BBQ in Southington CT is rather good and so is Firefly in Shrewsbury MA or near there.
