What A Year

Here’s a little (okay, hour-long) look at 1965, a year which changed, well, pretty much everything.  (It’s horribly edited, but just go with the flow.)

Imagine releasing an album that had all these hit songs on it — from a band that nobody had heard of, and who have since been forgotten.

My favorite of that lot?  Needles and Pins.

Never mind all the other more well-known stuff from the Stones, Beatles, Beach Boys, Dylan, Yardbirds, Four Tops… and the list goes on an on.

Now let’s talk about the changes in fashion, and attitudes.  My Generation, indeed.

And then came Rubber Soul.

  1. In 1965 I turned 10 and when I started paying attention to music on my own. Prior to then I was mostly aware of just “little kid songs” and whatever my parents played, though they rarely played anything.

I was getting my input from the radio and at Christmas that year I got one of them little portable jobs and more and more it became part of my daily grind.

Up until about 15-20 years ago music was a big part of everyday life around here, listening to it, and playing it on various instruments. Then it started dropping off. Became less important, dare I say, even an annoying distraction?

I still play some mp3’s several times a week, as I also play one of my guitars or keyboards several times a week, but I’m no longer addicted to the stuff like I was for about half a century. I guess I got old or something….
