Special Day

For no reason at all, I declared yesterday to be “Ruger Revolver Day”, and duly equipped, I headed off to the range…

From the top:  Blackhawk .30 Carbine (7½”), Single Six .22 LR (5½”), Single Six .22 LR/.22 Mag (6½”), and Redhawk .45 LC/ACP (4″).

And a good time was had by all except the poor wee lass in the booth next to mine, who was startled by the sound of the .30 Carbine round and its 18″ muzzle flash.

Have I mentioned before how much I love shooting single-action revolvers?  I have?  Many times?  Well, there’s a reason.

36 rounds of .30 Carbine, 48 rounds of .45 ACP (I’m a little short of .45 Colt, soon to be remedied), and I kinda lost count of the .22s (it happens), but it was a lot.

Just for the record, my post-shooting Zen (that lovely adrenaline dump) lasted for about two hours afterwards… wonderful.

Next time:  some semi-auto rifle activity of the 7.62x39mm persuasion, or maybe it’ll be the turn of the S&W revolvers, I’m not sure.  Sufficient unto the day is the pleasure thereof.

  1. Nice revolvers.

I really enjoy the Ruger Single Six Convertible I have. It is the 4.68 inch model, blued. There is something very satisfying about shooting a single action revolver.

Did you put any 22 WMR through yours or just 22 LR?

So cool that you have both a blued and a stainless for the single action revolvers.

I think the RedHawk you have is awesome. It is really a great revolver. Nice to have in the collection.

If you have a hard time locating any 45 Colt, Check out this website – Target Sports USA out of Connecticut. They can sometimes have ammo that other places don’t have. I don’t often get ammo through them but I have a couple of times in the past. I think they are in Connecticut, but they ship all over the Country.
(Being in Massachusetts under the new bullshit laws I don’t think I can order out of state anymore myself.)

Thank you for the post. I like this series on guns of the day. Your blog is the best on the web. I check it every morning.

  2. JQ started day of the week theme.

    Maintenance Monday
    Target Tuesday
    “Wheelgun Wednesday”
    Training Thursday
    Firing Range Friday
    Shotgun Saturday
    Skeet Sunday

  3. I’m happy for you. A day at the range always makes the rest of life more tolerable. Later today I’ll be making my 90-mile, round-trip, trek to my range, aka My Happy Place.

  4. It’s SASS (Single Action Shooting Society) competitions were your can really exercise your SA’s. Most fun you can have with your spurs on.

I’ve got a brace of Stainless Old Model Vaqueros (OMV) Bisleys, 5″ barrels, in .357. Slicked up by the King of the Cowboy Gunsmiths, Jim Bowie.
