Spontaneous Combustion

Tell me again how EVs are safe, good for the environment, etc. etc.?  They are?

Until they blow up in the night for no apparent reason, that is.

Financial question:  Would this be the time to short Mercedes stock, or would it be best to short all EV makers’ stock?  Asking for a friend.

Parallel thought:  how much longer is Elon Musk going to ride this dying horse?

  1. Tesla will probably be fine. They are built and marketed for effete urban dwellers who want a shiny toy, not a serious vehicle. Much like Apple computers.

  2. And Elon announces the new fuel cell that converts plain regular gasoline to electricity at 99.5% efficiency thus powering all Teslas without need for lithium cells. Just fill up locally once a month and drive off.

Once a year change the solid residue trap for $99.95 at your local gas station. Easy DIY install.

Oh, the conversion kit for current battery cars will cost 9,980.00 plus tax at any certified shop, far less than cost of the battery pack needed every 8 years (he sells those too)..

    1. Regular gas as in 85 octane?
The battery booster boobs talk about the externalities of fossil fuels, and can’t seem to calculate the externalities of exotic rare earth batteries to move people around.
Fuel cells that convert even at the terribly inefficient 80% levels are tantalizing.

Better living through applied science, i.e. engineering.

  3. Overheard at the liberal household with EV’s in the driveway or garage:

Did you leave the kitchen light on before you came to bed?

Nope, that’s just one of our EV’s that lit up again. Nighty night.

  4. well it’s about time they brought back the cigarette lighter feature in cars.

    Oh. wait. oops

Do these EVs come with Nomex racing suits like the race car drivers wear?

  5. Musk’s Tesla has just one purpose, like all his companies. To make it possible to colonize Mars. Mars can’t support IC engines, so he built Tesla in order to improve EV technology to the point where vehicles (including electric-powered Boring Company tunnelling machines) can build cities on, or under the surface of, Mars. The fact that Tesla also brings in cash from urban dwellers to help fund some of his other stuff is just a bonus.

For whatever reason, the man’s sole purpose in life is to put people (including himself) on Mars.

    1. For “whatever reason”? He’s given the reason many times. He want to ensure that humanity doesn’t have all of its eggs in one basket, a single comet or asteroid strike away from going the way of the dinosaurs or a nuclear war away from putting ourselves back into mere survival mode for the relatively few survivors. Earth is the cradle of mankind, but man can’t stay in the cradle forever. Eventually, we need to be spread out among other star systems, but that’s for another century, not this one.

Interviews and Public Statements: In various interviews and public appearances, Musk has emphasized the importance of EVs as a crucial step towards reducing carbon emissions and mitigating climate change. However, he has also highlighted the limitations of relying solely on EVs. For instance, he has mentioned the need for advanced battery technology and infrastructure development to support widespread EV adoption.
Focus on Sustainable Energy: Musk’s companies, such as Tesla and SpaceX, prioritize sustainable energy solutions beyond just EVs. He has emphasized the importance of developing renewable energy sources, like solar and wind power, to complement EVs and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
Combination of Technologies: Musk has advocated for a combination of technologies, including EVs, hydrogen fuel cells, and advanced internal combustion engines, to address the complex energy and environmental challenges facing the transportation sector.
