Update

It gives me great pleasure to announce to y’all that New Wife has finally jumped through the last citizenship hoop, and is now our newest U.S. citizen.

(The actual swearing-in is in two weeks’ time, but that’s just the formality.)

And of course, our deepest and most heartfelt thanks go to those who so generously helped us out when we couldn’t afford the outrageous additional legal fees thrown our way by Teh Bureaucracy.  Without you, this would never have happened.

We arrived at USCIS promptly as ordered at 2pm, and she was interviewed promptly at 3.45pm (#Gummint).  The interview — after all the shit we’ve had thrown at us over the past THREE YEARS — was more or less a formality:  she passed her citizenship quiz with flying colors, and considering that she speaks English rather better than I do, the token literacy test was likewise a breeze.

She celebrated by falling asleep on the couch within about 30 seconds after dinner.  (Being a worrier, no amount of reassurance from me could assuage her terror at the prospect of being kicked out of the country because #RandomGummintBastardy, so the post-interview stress dump took her out.)

But that’s all in the past, now:  as soon as she gets her passport I’m going to take her somewhere where she can toss it at Passport Control with a merry laugh as she returns to her new home country.

And once again, thankee thankee thankee to everybody.

That’s us with the Son&Heir at IHOP, laughing with joy and relief.

    1. The food’s okay, but no more than that. And (compared to the past) hellish expensive for what you get. I wanted to go to Hard 8 for BBQ, but my bank manager was in a meeting.

  1. Congratulations !!!! My wife went thru the process some 50+ years ago at the age of 12. The process was different then, ( or maybe her circumstances ) but she still has vivid memories of standing before a judge and being grilled on American history and the Constitution. The next step is voting. A serious source of pride for my wife even all these years later.

  2. Congratulations. I’m sure that she now knows more about American government and history than 99% of the people who were blessed by being born here. Anna makes a face at the thought of champagne, but we’ll enjoy a drop of something good in her honor this evening.

  3. Kim, that’s a great pic. As members (naturally born & honorary) of my tribe would shout .. MAZEL TOV !!! I may have to haul out the special scotch or 100 proof sipping rye for a wee dram in honor of Your Lovely Bride’s accomplishment. Well done !!

  4. Well, HOT DAMN! Welcome to the crazy mob called Americans! Now, co buy yourself your own, personal gun, ’cause the whole world knows every crazy American owns a gun!

  5. Woo Hoo! Congratulations and an extra glass of champagne for the fortunate lady. And you too Kim ;-). I mean really, if they allowed you in and I in as immigrants, the system can’t be that screwed up….. just kidding, it is mightily messed up, but sometimes gets things right. By gosh, I think I will send you some Peppadew jars just to celebrate ( I think interstate commerce of pickles is allowed still). Do you get Juanita Picante jars in TX??

  6. Waaaaiitaminit – you mean y’all did it legally?! You didn’t pay a coyote to bring her across so you could take refuge in her status as Victim™ & soak up the benefits confiscated from our resident Racists®? Cleary you’re a right-wing whackjob and literally Hitler. Probably a Jew too (don’t try to do the math on that one), eating matzah made from the blood of Christian children. I can see it right there on the table.

Absolutely thrilled to welcome her to the tribe. Mazal tov!

  7. Congrats. Always nice to have someone who wants to be here and does the paperwork. We go to iHop once a month. Share a Colorado omelet. All the eggs the SO can handle.
