I believe David Kopel covered this in his book “The Samurai, The Mountie and the Cowboy.” Japan has the highest number of suicides per capita in the world I believe and firearm ownership is practically non existent in the country. Further studies showed that in other countries, people intent on committing suicide found other methods to use when firearms were not available.
