“Caring for the environment and animal welfare are laudable ends, but when pursuit of those ends jeopardizes the health, and in some cases the lives of human beings, then those objectives must be subordinated to the larger and more important goal of the improvement in the human condition.”
And if you disagree with that statement and are prepared to sacrifice the lives of your fellow human beings for your cause, then as far as I’m concerned you’ve lost the right for me to care about your survival. It’s as simple as that.
12 Monkeys was a fucking movie, not a how-to guide.
There are QUITE A FEW allegedly human beings I’m willing to sacrifice for the welfare of animals. It’s sad, but it’s true.
Got a colleague who proudly proclaims he’s all for killing 7 billion people to save the planet and would do it if he knew a way to do it more quickly than the reproduction rate…
I’d wager that if you were to insist that if he holds such a position that he offer himself up as the first of the 7 billion, he’d pause at least a little.
There are more than a few defective genes in the Human Gene Pool that may require flushing with extreme prejudice.
I’m reading through the Percy Jackson and the Olympians with my son (whose reading habits are, well, anemic). The arch bad guy is Kronos who is seeking to destroy the Olympian gods and with it will go Western Civilization. Every time I read about Kronos’ master plan, I think the author could have done well to include Social Justice and woke culture as weapons (or manifestations) of Kronos’ power.
Or, as I tell the watermelons that espouse this idea, “Let’s all kill ourselves. You go first.”
Ace,
The emotional investing of ‘caring for welfare’ is different from accomplishing welfare.
And another thing.
Caring is the initial point.
Caring is rarely an end, laudable or otherwise.
Unless, of course, the caring is all you intend to accomplish.
Laudable.
I’m naming all my children ‘Laudable’.
