  1. Tull rocks, I listen to a ton of Tull – and Stand Up is a good one. Check out their live album “Nothing is Easy” from the Live at the Isle of Wight 1970. Them doing their thing live with the same material on Stand Up and similar.

Did you ever listen to the bootleg album “My God” back about 1971 or so? Terrible sound quality, but it was fun to listen to live Tull with the original (not from the Aqualung album) lyrics to the title song. It was passed around our bunch of Tull fans as about the only live version we could get until a bootleg from the Thick as a Brick tour came around.

I’ve got a couple of copies of Stand Up on LP but lost the original album cover (with the stand-up pop-outs) in a fire ‘way back when. The CD is okay, but I’m looking at getting the Steve Wilson re-mix copy since his job of re-mastering Aqualung is stunning.

Ol’ Ian has said many times that it’s his favorite Tull album since they were able to do it mostly as they wanted to, rather than as they were told to. One of my favorite pieces on it is “We Used to Know”, the chord progressions of which were re-used by the Eagles (after being an opening act for a Tull tour) for the obscure tune “Hotel California”. Mr. Anderson has also often said that he’s fine with that and somewhat flattered.

  3. I saw Tull live in New Orleans back in 1982, and I nearly passed out from the spectacle. Unbelievable staging, technical mastery from each musician, and of course a dancing, one-legged Anderson. How much more does one need?

  4. I lost interest in Tull after Cornick and Bunker left, but I still listen to their first few albums regularly, particularly Stand Up. If I had to pick just one Tull song, this is the one.
