Okay, I admit it: I am thoroughly bereft of ideas for blog posts of any meaning or consequence for tomorrow’s offering.
Of course, there’s always a Gun Pic, or a Random Totty, or a Beautiful Old Car, or any combination thereof. (e.g. some young / older totty carrying a gun standing next to a car.)
But a topic worth discussion? Nada, bupkes, bugger all. I got, as the saying goes, nothing.
Not interested in Trump trials, 2024 elections, pro-Palestinian bullshit, none of what passes for news nowadays. Government shenanigans occasionally attract my curiosity, but all I want to do is hang all of them, almost without exception, and how many times can I write about that?
And I cannot be bothered to do anything about sports, because the EPL season is drawing to a close and the F1 season is even less interesting than usual — and anyway, both topics are regarded by my Loyal Readers as equivalent to having me deliver ball-by-ball commentary on a minor golf tournament, during a rainstorm.
I mean, WTF?
So unusually, I’m calling on you, my Readers, to give me some topic(s) you’d like me to talk about. If I get anything interesting before 6pm Central Whatever Time today, I’ll try to do something about it before midnight.
Otherwise, I’ll be forced to resort to pics of nude women, or guns, or nude women holding guns, or… you get the idea.
In Comments or by email, please.
Book reviews. Any recommended reading?
Ah. Let me ponder that for a while…
Seconded!
It’s rather frivolous, but what are your thoughts on the latest controversy in the video gaming world where the woke (specifically this “Sweet Baby Inc” consulting firm) are a) forcing companies to “uglify” (basically make women look like men pretending to be women) and/or b) trying to get games from “unwoke” countries (mostly in Asia) to either censor or ban their games from the west so that their “hot characters” don’t make the landwhales in the west have body positivity issues and off themselves?
Screenshots of Eve, Bayonetta, Tifa, and Bloodrayne might help to sell such a post. Comparisons of woke vs unwoke Lara Croft might be of interest as well.
The Critical Drinker has some very pungent thoughts on this topic.
Give us a recipe or two for things you like. To eat.
Food.

.
Glad you specified.
I’d actually be interested if you have any good boerewors recipes. I make my own sausage at home, and it seems like something I would enjoy eating.
I’m an ex Australian Army infantry soldier, late 70s to late 80s vintage. It was a time of peace, post-Vietnam, so I never saw active service.
You were pretty close by the Rhodesian bush war, so what was like for a young man in the SADF back in the day? Weapons, uniforms, webbing, packs, tactics, PT, drill, punishments, food, soldiering with blacks, dealing with black civilians, anything at all would be of interest to me.
seconded!!!
Thirded! Also leadership quality, operational doctrine.
Innocent Times Part 2 from May 5
Nick Moran aka “the Chieftan”, Steve Zaloga and other respected authors have raised lots of questions about the supposed superiority of the German army in WW2. There are plenty of myths out there that say outrageously ignorant things about the British and American forces that defeated Nazi Germany. I’ll give just a few examples:
Sherman tanks were not “death traps” or “Ronson lighters”. US Armored troops had the lowest casualty rate of any branch of the ground forces. A soldier’s highest chance of surviving the war was as a tanker.
Sherman tanks didn’t have sloped armor. All Shermans had cast or welded angled front plates and the cast hull Shermans were curved in all directions.
All US tank rounds bounced off German tanks. The standard 75mm Sherman gun was intended as an infantry support cannon, not an AT weapon. The longer barrel 76mm guns were quite effective against German armor and even the short 75 could do serious damage to the sides and rear of a Panther or Tiger.
I’ve heard too many people say that all German tanks were diesel powered and that’s why they didn’t burn. NO German tanks were diesel powered. Tigers, Panthers, Mk 4s etc all used gasoline – and rather poor quality gas at that – as fuel. Early Shermans did have a reputation for burning, but that was the result of ammunition rather than fuel fires. Later Shermans changed their ammo storage and were lots more fireproof.
The so called superior German engineering turned Panther and Tigers into maintenance nightmares. A Sherman transmission could be changed out from the front of the vehicle in a couple of hours. To change a Panther transmission – which were notoriously unreliable – required pulling off the gun, turret, drive train, driver’s position and then pulling the final drive out through the vehicle interior. Not easy to do when the T-34 or Shermans are coming over the hill.
I could go on at great length on this subject. I know that we’re not all tread heads but I get tired of hearing that all things German were automatically superior because German. I just ask who won the war?
1) How did you lose 40 lbs?
2) Is this the end times for South Africa?
3) What is the best sport and why is it Aussie Rules Football?
4) Is there any beer in the USA that is close to Wadworth 6X in taste and appeal?
5) Stellenbosch vs Franschhoek–your personal choice?
1. Ozempic / Rybelsus
2. Not yet, but it’s getting closer. As the man said, “There’s a lot of ruin in a civilization.”
3. Oz footy is an excellent sport, and it remains the only one where they don’t cheat — probably because it’s a local sport so there’s no national pride involved.
4. No. All Murkin beer is too fizzy.
5. If we’re talking places, then Franschoek. If wine, then I prefer the Stellenbosch ones, mostly.

What hazard faced by pioneers in North America, Africa, or Australia caused the most deaths?
That’s easy — mosquito-borne diseases 😛
I would be very interested in your thoughts on the trends in and evolution of the English language, as written and spoken.
I’m currently caught up in the Stanley Cup Playoffs!
I miss Don Cherry, and I believe you would have loved his commentary.
Perhaps some favorite pre-1960s movies?
