They left out the last step “Kill them before they kill you.”
(That’s the part where the people take over from the failed government.)
As opposed to the current strategy of whoever is actually in charge —–
Wait until something happens or if nothing happens by September, then make something happen and blame Donald Trump and make sure the media plays along.
While this may not be the policy for Muslim Terrorists, I fail to see how this isn’t the strategy for vast swaths of the American political class (including a large majority of Republican) as well.
The problem as I see it is we Americans add a fifth step. “See that thing that happened. Now we have to do something.” and that thing is always to overreact*.
* Overreact = Create some policy that is wildly unconstitutional while insisting it will always be carried in a constitutional way.
Catching up and coming in very late.
The strategy is from ‘Yes Minister’ circa 1992. Still cromulent throughout.
Bernard Woolley: What if the Prime Minister insists we help them?
Sir Humphrey Appleby: Then we follow the four-stage strategy.
Bernard Woolley: What’s that?
Sir Richard Wharton: Standard Foreign Office response in a time of crisis.
Sir Richard Wharton: In stage one we say nothing is going to happen.
Sir Humphrey Appleby: Stage two, we say something may be about to happen, but we should do nothing about it.
Sir Richard Wharton: In stage three, we say that maybe we should do something about it, but there’s nothing we *can* do.
Sir Humphrey Appleby: Stage four, we say maybe there was something we could have done, but it’s too late now.
