“Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel has come up with a great way to save lives — he just announced he won’t seek re-election. ” — Mark Simone
It says something that I, an admitted lover of Chicago, have had several second thoughts about visiting the place during the Emanuel Years because of safety concerns.
That lives will be saved is doubtful. I have every bit of confidence that the next Mayor of Chi town will be a member of the Evil Party who kisses up to criminals, criminalizes cops & the law abiding, raises taxes, and does all those other wonderful Leftist things that turn first world cities into third world hellholes.
Chicago isn’t really dangerous, outside of certain West Side and South Side neighborhoods.
However, the gangbanger element is not confined to those areas. There are occasional shootings, some fatal, in other areas, even in downtown.
There is also a rising number of armed robberies, assaults, and carjackings in middle-class and rich-hipster neighborhoods There is a blog Crime In Wrigleyville + Boystown devoted to just one area.
Also, there are more and more frequent incidents of “wilding”, when packs of feral teens from those same neighborhoods run rampant on the lakefront or in the high-rent Near North Side. The press, of course, doesn’t mention these incidents.
Second City Cop does, though.
